How to Choose a Polo Shirt Colour: Beige, Lavender, Mustard Yellow or Red

Neutral or bold? What each of our four polo colours goes with, and a simple rule for combining colours without overthinking it.

Four polo shirt colours side by side: beige, lavender, mustard yellow and red

In short: pick a neutral if you want one polo that goes with almost everything, and a brighter colour if you want the polo to be the focus of the outfit. Then check it against the trousers you actually own. Below, each of our four colours — beige, lavender, mustard yellow and red — and what to wear with it.

Three questions to ask first

  1. Where will you wear it? Quieter colours are easier in an office; brighter ones suit weekends and holidays.
  2. What trousers do you own? A polo you can wear with three pairs is worth more than one that only matches a single pair.
  3. Do you want to blend in or stand out? Neither is wrong — it simply changes which shade you choose.

The quieter pair: beige and lavender

Beige

Beige is the neutral of the four. It sits comfortably next to navy, charcoal, olive, brown and dark denim. For contrast, pair it with a darker trouser; beige on beige can look washed out unless the two shades are clearly different.

Lavender

Lavender is a soft pastel. It reads calm rather than loud, and looks clean with grey, navy and white. It is a good choice if you want colour without brightness.

The bolder pair: mustard yellow and red

Mustard yellow

Mustard yellow is warm and noticeable. Navy and dark denim are its natural partners; grey and olive also work. Keep the rest of the outfit plain and let the polo do the talking.

Red

Red is the strongest colour in the range. It is at its best with simple, dark trousers — charcoal, navy or black — and plain shoes. One strong colour per outfit is a reliable rule.

A simple rule for combining colours

Wear one colour that stands out and keep everything else neutral. With a bright polo, choose grey, navy, black, beige or dark denim for the trousers. With a neutral polo, you have more freedom below the waist.

Seeing the colours accurately

Screens show colour differently, so a shade can look slightly warmer or cooler on your phone than it does in daylight. If an exact shade matters — for a team, an event or a uniform — message us and ask before you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Which polo colour goes with the most outfits?

Of our four, beige. Neutrals combine with the widest range of trousers.

Which colours suit an office?

Beige and lavender are the safer choices for a casual office. Red and mustard yellow make more of a statement.

What colour trousers go with a red polo?

Dark, plain ones: charcoal, navy, black or dark denim.

Is the design the same in every colour?

Yes. The cut, collar, buttons and embroidered emblem are the same; only the colour of the fabric — and whether the emblem is dark or light — changes. See the collection overview for details.
